Introduction
PA, commonly known as Nylon, is one of the most durable plastics. It is often used as a substitute for low strength metals.
This plastic is highly machinable and has a high strength-to-weight ratio. Nylon also has excellent resistance to heat, chemicals, abrasion, fungus, mold, and mildew.
Plating is a process where a conductive surface is covered with a thin layer of metal. It is commonly used to prevent corrosion, increase durability, alter surface friction, and improve appearance.
Abrasive blasting is a finishing process where a media is propelled at a high velocity against a part’s surface to smooth or roughen it, or to remove contaminants,
often in preparation for painting or another finishing process.

Engineer's Pro Tips
✔ PA can be reinforced with glass fibers (i.e. PA66+GF30), increasing the material’s strength substantially. With reinforcement, PA can achieve similar strength characteristics to POM.
✔ PA is not well suited to polishing or disassembling. It also cannot be assembled with glue.
