Mechanical part design, reasons for chamfering and rounding of parts.

2022-12-16

Reasons for mechanical part design, chamfering and rounding of parts:

The reason for chamfering C:

1. Parts, sharp edges do not hurt hands;

2. Assembly to avoid interference with the rounded R corner;

3. Assembly, easy to insert;

4. Assemble to avoid damage to the O-ring (more to consider the R angle to avoid scratching the seal);

5. The needs of structural design;

Reasons for round R:

1.  Part processing, the "copy" function of the tool fillet;  the tool fillet is mostly: R0.1, R0.4, R0.8, and the design refers to the common value of the tool.

2.  The needs of structural design;

3.  Structural strength needs to avoid stress concentration;

4.  In quenching and other processes, avoid brittle cracks at sharp corners;

When the chamfer C can take any value, it should be marked as [C0.2~C0.8 for unmarked chamfer];

If it is simply marked as [C0.5 without fillet, R0.2 without fillet], the manufacturer will think that it does not check, and chamfer with a tool arbitrarily, causing chamfer interference;

The accuracy of chamfering is usually poor. The single side of C0.5 is 0.5mm. In fact, the accuracy may be ±0.3mm, and dryness may occur in places that require assembly.
